修煉典故：師父的腳印

師與徒在魔難中失散，天各一方，互無音訊。

徒弟對師父很挂念，常常想著師父。

從那時開始，徒弟就經常做一個單一的夢：

夢見沙灘上有兩排並行的腳印。在夢裡，他知道其中一排腳印是他自己的，

另一排，他就不明白了。這樣的夢，他常常夢到，幾乎每次都是一樣的。

但有時候，會有一點變化，有時沙灘上只有一排腳印。

很多年，徒弟受了很多很多的苦，但他對師父的信念從沒變過，而這夢他也一直重複著夢到。

很多年後，他終於摸清了規律，一般困難的日子，都是兩排腳印，但一到他最困難、最生不如死，幾乎想放棄生命的日子裡，睡夢裡就只會有一排腳印。

又過了很多年後，四海承平。師徒互相找到了，日子也不再苦了，徒弟和師父又重逢在一起，徒弟也就不再夢到這夢境了。

徒弟若有所悟，激動的去問師父：｢在我困難的日子裡，夢裡的另一排腳印，其實是師父您一直在陪著我走那苦路，是嗎？｣師父也沒看他，只停下了，不經意地低聲回了聲｢嗯！｣徒弟很感動地回去了。

過了一會兒，他又想不明白了，又去找師父：｢可是，在我最生不如死的日子裡，師父您為什麼離棄了我呢？｣

師父說：｢我從來沒離棄過你。｣

徒弟不解說：｢可是，在我最生不如死的日子裡，夢裡明明只有我自己的一排腳印啊！｣

師父這時才把目光移到了徒弟臉上，師徒目光交匯，師父輕輕答道：｢我挂念你，護持你，而且我永遠不會離開你，在你生不如死、最痛苦最軟弱的日子裡，的確只有一排腳印。但那一排腳印不是你的，而是我的。在那些日子裡，是師父抱著你、背著你走過了那段最難走的路。｣

Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene,he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to him, and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of foot - prints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
